Before I started my Facebook fanpage I wasn’t sure I was going to do it, but when I seen what it meant for another of my engagements, Concerts For Change I decided to create a fanpage for this blog (Socialmedia by Anders Sporring ). It was not a difficult decision but I had my doubts before doing it, Like ‘Who am I to think I’m so interesting?’ and so on.
But in the end I decided to do it, and much to my surprise this might be the best move I done so far. I tried to use my Swedish blog (sporring.se ) to generate assignments, but as that blog isn’t a niche blog I guess it had fail written all over it. And I have learnt that it’s important to be a niche blog to be considered in most cases. But I’m proud of my Swedish blog, it’s my ‘think-tank’ where I share my personal thoughts and experiences. And for me as well as for my brand both these blogs are essential for who I am.
But the most interesting things with launching my fanpage was the new contacts it generated. It’s viral impact was more than i expected in my wildest dreams, but on the other hand when I didn’t expected anything other than to get more readers of my blog this was an amazing discovery (However not a total surprise!).
Until today it has generated 17 new contacts, and so far 5 meetings. And I hope by writing interesting material it will continue generate more contacts and by that also more business contacts.
Meet with some friends on Monday at Bloggers Monday and had a nice time there. Being part of that group/network has given me many revelations about both blogging and social media. We meet the first Monday morning of the month in central Stockholm, usually in the lobby at Scandic Anglais
Talking to two of my friends there they asked me if I’m blogging for bloggings sake (updating just to do updates) or if I’m trying to write about things when I have something important to say. My answer was: “I don’t write just to do updates, for me the content is the key!”
I follow and read a lot of blog’s, and what I can see a lot of them just feels to update for update’s sake, not trying to fill their blogs with good content. For me closing in on my anniversary as a blogger, tow years on the 23rd of February I feel proud to be blogging about the core issues now, Charity 2.0 and Socialmedia. And this is something I have found out through out time, and everything I know I have learnt from the masters, my friends from Jaiku, Twitter and through meetings in real life.
Maybe some people don’t see it but for me my consistency in the material I deliver here is a mix of informative posts and teachings that I give back to the community. And even if my heart now is focused on Charity 2.0 is my first love Socialmedia as it has given me a new life and energies to do something else of myself.
Besides writing day by day journals I have now decided that I every month will do a mindmapping to find new ways of thinking, or to direct my thoughts in a specific direction. Being a creative mind I have to discipline myself otherwise my mind will run away with me to the next level or/and to a new idea. I have tried some of the online Mind mapping tools, and one I really like is Mindmeister that gives me the simplicity as well as the extras I need. The service is free and online, and the last things are to me very important.
Brainstorming is always a good way to find solution and creatively solve problems by finding different and in some cases new paths of doing things. The good thing now is that we don’t need to be at the same place as we can collaborate doing our brainstorming online.
Of course there are other services, like for instance bubbl.us and Mind42 that gives the same, so it’s just down to your taste to find the one that works the best for you. You can find a list HERE on Wiki about the other ones.
