This is my third post about the Disruptivemedia Conference and in this one I’m, collecting my thoughts about the conference, the Keynote speakers and the other speakers.
The changing World
The Social Media landscape is changing fast, and we are changing with it. Today the Social Media channels are open and here to stay. The only thing that will change is how we use them.
Today when Twitter and other micoblogs gets more and more mainstream, will early adopters go on to other services or will they stay on the same forums? The exclusivity is gone and now everybody starts to know what an microblog is.
Brian Solis said that Social Media is not yet Mainstream (I know that goes against my statement above, but that’s my own point of view), and I agree with that in some ways. What we are looking for is an integration of traditional media and Social Media. The reach gets better that way.
Brands that not listen and observe too what’s happening in Social Media will one find themselves lost because they didn’t start to develop an Social Media strategy and Social Media engagement.
Sustainable brands will have bigger impact on people as they know how to talk with their customers (having the good digital conversation!), give an sustainable value and fantastic products! We had the opportunity to listen to Johan Ununger – CEO of Saltå Kvarn and they’re one of those brands that are “Love brands” that people takes to their hearts.
We have to learn how to be where the discussions and comments are made about our brands, and to be able to comment and take part in the discussions ourselves. Education of people working in companies to create an involvment also gives you marketing advantages.
As Chris Heuer says: “If you have a dysfunctional org, you CAN’T interact in social media” And I can’t agree more. How many companies where I have been a consultant the past years have I not seen that problem. And no one wants to change it, as many rather stays in Staus quo than move forward to an better relationship.
Transparency – A change in rules how to be and act online, there has to be a consistency Says Brian Solis to be able make the Social Media more effective.
Finally, a big thank to Annika Lidne and her Disruptivemedia for both an excellent arrangement and the fantastic lineup of speakers. For me this has been one of many turning points the past year, and the journey has only began. From this conference I take a lot with me and I feel strengthen in my own thoughts on Social Media and how to act and react in the future. I would also like to say thanks to the speakers during the conference, all of you have given me valuable input and also some new ways of thinking about the landscape we all live in and love called Social Media. Thanks!!

I enjoyed your write up, Anders.
I think for me the main thing that struck me at the conference was just how so many of us take social media for granted, but that many people out there in the workforce really don’t have a clue what “we” are talking about.
It’s imperative that those of us involved in social media make it readily accessible for everyone and that involves taking the message out to the man and woman in the street.
Those of us on Twitter, etc, already are talking to those that are already converted. How do we get other people to understand social media if they aren’t using it yet?
Thanks Jon! Yes indeed how do we already “saved” get out there and make the “Gospel” heard? That’s one of the more both interesting and hard questions to answer. I can’t answer that one, but I believe that “we” can make that change by being the one’s we are and showing the “other” that it’s nothing strange with it, it’s just another way of having an conversation, and its not only on the internet, it’s very much so in real life also.
