 Internet Marketing Conference 2009-05-27
Part four – Final thoughts

It has been an interesting day for me to participate in Internet Marketing Conference in Stockholm, and I’m grateful for that opportunity that was given to me. It’s fantastic to be able to take part of such great minds and experts that shares their thoughts and practices from stage. Since I started in Social media I have learned so much new things, mostly thanks to my friends in different channels, but also through “trial an error” and that’s one of the strong points that was said from the stage this day not only once but a few times.

The fear of not doing right from the beginning

As I say in this headline, this is what most both people, organizations and Companies fear the most, and so did I in the beginning when I started out in Socialmedia. I choosed an nick not related to my name (cityrat59) because I didn’t know what I’m going in too. Now in retrospect when this nick is so strongly branded I sometimes wishes that I had choosen my name instead, but done is done and I feel confident now with my branded nick cityrat59. What I’m saying is that there’s no wrongs or right, everyone has got to find the solution that works for them, and also follow up, do measures and see if the model is working. The constant followup is one of the neccesary measures that have to be taken, it’s not possible to sit down and feel “we have done this now” and then wonder why the ROI isn’t increasing. No you have to be there and be active, communicate, comment and discuss otherwise the interest for you dies and it’s an fast development!

Lessons learned

My father had an great lesson for me when I was ready to fly out of the nest, he said to me: “Learning shouldn’t be for life, but life should be used for learning” and my father was true that all of his life, he constantly learned new things, searched for information and discussed with all kinds of people. I have used that also during my life and I will never stop learning new things as I strongly beleive that if you’re active and learn you will never loose out in life.
And this day was no exception, in my previos post from the day I have done some summeries so I will not repeat myself in this post again, but the strongest impression for me was made by Mitch Joel that opened my eyes in more ways that one and I’m still proccesing some of that in my mind. So what he said that really stuck with me was:

Burn the old ways of thinking, the implation of old media, Reboot, start new and think in new ways
Ctrl – Alt – Del

Finally once again thanks to Lennart Svanberg Producer of Internet Marketing Conference for giving me this oppurtinity!
