I have meet this opinion now quite some times now the past few months when I have been having classes in Social Web and Social tools. And the reason why people feel this way is that they have no control (their opinion, not mine) over their persona online. And that’s just the point! Follow me now here when I reason about this issue:
I ask this question on the end of my presentation:
- How do you go on from here?
- What are you doing today to develop and strengthen your online brand?
- What is stopping you from branding yourself online?
One of the key reasons people/companies are not engaging on an online presence is the time factor. And of course you need to put in time and effort in getting it all to work for you online, but the advantages are great and the cost to get it all going is mainly the resources and time you put in to it.
And I can’t understand why people, Companies and Organizations don’t at least protect their own brand online. It’s of as much importance now as in the beginning of Internet where the domain was the only thing you needed to secure. Now it’s another story, and it changes very fast.
So, going back to my notes here on Personal branding I think all need to look over how they stand in this now. And for me I guess I will during next year revise my thoughts on this, so look out for this next year!
Some collected thoughts for an successful Personal Branding
Specialty:
An Personal Branding must be clear and focus on any of these points:
core strength, talent and/or achievement.
Specialization can be in many different ways:
ability, behavior, lifestyle, business, product, profession or service.Personality:
Profiling must be built on the person’s true personality with the advantages and shortcomings.
The person should see themselves and are perceived by others as a leading personality, but need not, for all this to be perfect.Leadership:
For a personal profile to be perceived as an authority and credibility that the person is perceived as a model of people in his domain or sphere of influence. Leadership comes from the person’s demonstrated skills, status or recognition.Individual character:
Effective profiling must excel so that it differs from the competing profiles. Many personal profiles is / are overly cautious in order not to excel. As a result, their profile will have very bad impact.
Visibility, Transparency:
To succeed with a profiling it must be visible until it has made awareness within their sphere of influence. Visibility creates a presumption of quality, and provides great opportunities for dialogue. People assume that because they see a person all the time, the person must be superior to all others that offer the same product or service.
Patience:
Some profiling requires time to pass through, and you can not speed up the process by replacing it with advertising or PR. Do not change your profile, but was strong and believe in it. The result will come!
Goodwill:
A profiling gives better results and have a longer ’sustainability’ on the person behind it is perceived in a positive way. He / She must be related to a value or an idea that is generally recognized as positive.
