I have all my life been interested in helping others, no wonder really. Growing up in Christian family where my father was the minister in the Swedish Church. The small villages on the Nordic countryside was my home ground and there people is especially giving. In fact the villages usually compete who will gather the most money to the cause.

But when I was grown up I didn’t find anything that really interested me enough to give it my time and effort, I was a short period a member of Green Peace, Red Cross and some other organizations. But I never felt at peace within those organizations. I did already back there feel that I couldn’t see where the money went. And for most people that’s even more important nowadays, we want to know where our money is going to do good, and my educated guess is that’s what will be these big organizations challenge for the next couple of years. Without a doubt will also companies that gives money to charities see the result where their money is doing good work.

Now back to my own conviction, I believe in people power. And there’s such power in social networks that’s still unleashed so we only have to find ways to use it in the service of the good.

I believe we all have it in us, to help others less fortunate and there’s a good chance we all will be able to do that now. All over the World is smaller organizations popping up with the urge to find a way to do good, to help and also to help us get a more Sustainable World. Maybe it’s not easy to find others that also want to do something but, now we have Social media, this perfect tool to find others that wants to do something. Me and my friends Renee and Johan has shown how easy it is to start something, what we did with Concerts For Change . At the first meetup there were about 10 people, and after a small time it came clear that it was us three that was really going to do something, and with a little help from two of the others attending the meeting. We had our first event, and since it was our first event we didn’t get any newspaper to be interested in it. So our only source of advertising the event was to use Social tools. What we used was primarily Twitter and a facebook group, so it’s easy to start something by using that.

We still need to find good ways for payments, that’s a key issue to make this work. There are very limited services that we can use, so the ideal would be a possibility to do payments in a secure way from a microblog like Twitter but also within Facebook and(or why not MySpace? The same goes for blogs, I have seen a figure recently saying there are more than 30 million blogs around the world. Imagine if just a small amount of those publishing a widget with a cause they want to support, making it possible for people to make payments directly to that cause.

Yes there’s a lot to be done, but we as a community can make it happen. So for next year my dreams are that this will be solved and that we see more new initiatives coming along!
